What to Do About Family Law and Divorce
a
Write a concise list of your five most important divorce goals. If custody is most important, you don’t want to get bogged down in discussion of other issues.
b
Write a summary of the facts of the case (why you are seeing the attorney, the length of your marriage, number and age of kids, property owned, length of marriage, assets other than real estate, and income of both parties).
c
Don’t immediately share your plans to divorce with family and friends; give yourself some time, privacy, and the opportunity to understand how the process will work.
d
Create an inventory of marriage and home assets and debts.
