Why did you become an attorney?

My father is an attorney, and a good one.  I watched the impact he had on clients and the community and felt as if I could contribute in helping to resolve all types of problems.

What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

Professionally, I take my general practitioner experience (civil litigation, domestic relations, business, and personal injury) and apply that knowledge to my speciality, estate planning, trust and probate law.  That cross-discipline knowledge has developed into a unique skill set resulting in some very unique resolutions.

Personally, being a dad and husband really puts things into perspective.  Both attorneys and clients must occasionally pause and reassess exactly what we are doing, so that the most important things are not ignored.

What made you choose your primary specialty focus of law?

I successfully litigated some unique cases involving estate disputes, which led to more of that type of work.  As I got better at utilzing the law, some law even changed based on what I presented to the court.  I believe that many problems can be resolved before ever reaching a courtroom, preventing additional expense and heartache for the parties; that is where the estate planning is vital.

What makes your law firm unique?

Our staff and attorneys are driven to help our clients accomplish their goals and succeed.  We will tackle nearly any issue, and have recorded successes that are unmatched by most law firms.  Our team approach allows us to pull legal skills and resources from across multiple areas of law, and as a result, we have won cases at every level in Ohio.

Describe your ideal client.

Someone that has an open mind and is willing to trust in me while working toward a long-term attorney/client relationship.  There are many sensitive and personal decisions that may have to be made while working toward a client's goals; with a little trust, we will get there.

Describe your personal interest and hobbies.

My wife and I have three daughters, and my interests and hobbies revolve around them.  We enjoy biking, skating (ice or roller), skiing, and all things outdoors.  There isn't a day that goes by where we aren't busy with activies or school.  I am fortunate to have traveled extensively, and I look forward to traveling with them and sharing those experiences with them.

Describe your charitable activities.

I am proud to serve as co-chair of the Dayton Bar Association's Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Committee (2013-present).  Since 2007, I have served on the University of Dayton School of Law Alumni Board.  I have also volunteered as the legal advisor for the Delta Chi Fraternity, Miami University chapter, since 2011.  Occasionally, I will assist the Volunteer Lawyer's Project.
