Why did you become an attorney?

Before I went to law school, I began my working career in the non-profit sector as an advocate for consumer and environmental causes.  I then spent 10 years as an elected Dayton City Commissioner.  I chose to become an attorney as another way to continue helping people with their problems and, especially, to do battle against large and powerful institutions and corporations on behalf of "the little guy."

What experiences (work and personal) help you to be a better attorney?

Intelligence, Dedication, Experience.  I have worked with government, individuals and small businesses for over 30 years to find practical solutions to the problems of my clients.

What made you choose your primary specialty focus of law?

I have been a civil litigator since my earliest days as an Associate at Ohio's biggest law firm.  When I went out on my own, I eventually gravitated to areas of practice in which I excelled, was getting referrals from other attorneys, and that were not dominated by firms that do extensive TV advertising.

What makes your law firm unique?

I believe I provide a uniquely high level of personal service to my clients.  I work hard at keeping them informed about the progress of their case, I answer their questions and I respond promptly to phone calls and emails.

Describe your ideal client.

For me, an ideal client is one who takes an interest in understanding the legal strategy I will employ to try and solve their problem.  They want to know what I am doing with the case and why, but they are also smart enough to allow me to do it.

Describe your personal interest and hobbies.

My family is my main personal interest.  My law office is located with the office of my wife, Karen Bradley, who is also an attorney who practices immigration law.  We are members of St. George Episcopal Church in Centerville.  We love to travel with our daughter Sofia.  I also enjoy playing music and cycling.

Describe your charitable activities.

My main charitable activities are related to my law practice.  I handle many pro-bono cases each year and also participate in the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyer Project.

Free Initial Consultation?

My initial consultations are usually free because I do more extensive screening of a new case on the telephone with new clients.  If the client and I determine from the first call that there is a case worth discussing in further detail, I will then schedule an in-person appointment.  I rarely charge for the time spent to get introduced to a new case.

Typical Retainer Fees

The up-front retainer for a case varies widely.  There may be no retainer (for a contingent fee case), there may be a deposit needed for court costs, or there may be an initial deposit against a fixed fee or hourly rate.  Problems are different, fees are too.

Fixed-Price Services and Fees

Fees must be tailored to the specific case and the client's ability to afford it.  I work on percentage (or contingent) fees, fixed retainers or a combination of both. Overall case costs are a big part of what needs to be discussed in the initial consultation.  There are no mysteries on this important aspect of representation.

Fees by Hourly Rate

When hourly rates apply, and depending on the type of work, I charge $225 per hour.
